Lab tests with a provider who explains them

A lab result is only useful when someone tells you what it means for you. At Voss Family Clinic, tests are ordered by your primary care provider for a reason, collected at the clinic, and reviewed with you: what is normal, what needs watching and what needs treatment.

Common reasons for lab work include an annual physical, monitoring a chronic condition such as diabetes or thyroid disease, checking a new symptom such as fatigue, and confidential STD screening.

  • Blood draw and urine collection at the clinic
  • Fasting instructions given when you schedule
  • Results reviewed by your provider, with a follow-up plan
  • Abnormal results explained, not just reported

03

Collection

Blood is drawn and urine collected at the clinic during office hours.

04

Results and plan

Your provider reviews the results and contacts you, or discusses them at your follow-up, with clear next steps.

Understanding your results

Every result comes with a reference range, but a value just outside the range is not always a problem, and a value inside the range is not always reassuring. Trends over time, your symptoms and your other conditions matter as much as a single number. That is why your provider, not a printout, interprets your labs.

Results your provider will always discuss

  • A1C of 5.7% or higher (prediabetes) or 6.5% or higher (diabetes)
  • LDL cholesterol high for your risk level
  • Abnormal kidney or liver function
  • Abnormal thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)
  • Any positive infection screening
High cholesterol symptoms and testing

Screening tests by age

Adults are generally screened for high cholesterol and diabetes risk starting in their 30s and 40s, earlier with risk factors such as family history, high blood pressure or weight. Your annual physical is the natural time to keep screening on schedule; your provider follows U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommendations and adjusts them to you.

Insurance and cost

Voss Family Clinic accepts most major insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Ambetter, Medicare and Medicare-Medicaid dual plans. What you pay for lab testing depends on your plan’s copay and deductible, and on whether tests are ordered. See insurance accepted or call (281) 617-8671 to verify your coverage before your visit.

Lab testing questions we hear most

Quick answers about lab work at our Sugar Land clinic.

Still have questions?

Our front desk can answer questions about visits and confirm your insurance before you come in.

Call (281) 617-8671

Do I need to fast before my blood test?

Only for certain tests, such as fasting glucose and some cholesterol panels. We tell you when you schedule. Water and your usual medicines are generally fine unless your provider says otherwise.

How long do results take?

Many results are back within a few days. Your provider reviews them and contacts you with anything that needs action, or discusses them at your follow-up visit.

Can I get lab work without a visit?

Established patients can often have routine, provider-ordered labs drawn without a full visit. New patients and new problems need a visit first so the right tests are ordered.

Can you draw labs ordered by another doctor?

Call the office with the order and we will tell you whether we can collect it here.

Is STD testing confidential?

Yes. Results are part of your private medical record and are discussed only with you.

What insurance do you accept?

Voss Family Clinic accepts most major insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Ambetter, Medicare and Medicare-Medicaid dual plans. Coverage depends on your specific plan and network, so call (281) 617-8671 with your card ready and the front desk will confirm your benefits before your visit.

Do I need an appointment?

No. Walk-ins are welcome Monday–Friday, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM. You can also request an appointment online or call (281) 617-8671; calling ahead lets you ask about the current wait.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes. Voss Family Clinic is accepting new adult patients for primary care. Your first visit can be a walk-in, a scheduled appointment or a sick visit, and the same team continues your care afterward.
