What telehealth is good for

Telehealth is a scheduled visit by secure video or phone. It works well when your provider already knows you and the question does not need a hands-on exam: a follow-up after a medication change, a review of blood pressure or blood sugar readings, a refill question, a rash you can show on camera, or a minor illness such as a cold or a straightforward urinary infection.

It is not a substitute for care that needs an exam, a test or a procedure. If you are not sure, call the office; the front desk will tell you which type of visit to book.

  • Follow-ups for blood pressure, diabetes, thyroid and cholesterol
  • Medication reviews, dose changes and refill questions
  • Minor illnesses and visible skin problems
  • Review of lab or test results

Telehealth explained

Making the most of a virtual visit

A good telehealth visit is prepared like an office visit. Your provider cannot take your blood pressure or listen to your lungs through a screen, so what you bring to the call matters.

Have these ready

  • Your current medicines and supplements, with doses
  • Home readings: blood pressure, blood sugar, weight or temperature, with dates
  • A short list of your questions
  • Your pharmacy name and location

When your provider will ask you to come in

  • A new problem that needs a physical exam
  • Chest pain, shortness of breath, severe pain or a high fever: these may need the ER instead
  • Lab work, vaccines or an EKG
  • Symptoms that have not improved after a telehealth plan

Insurance and cost

Voss Family Clinic accepts most major insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Ambetter, Medicare and Medicare-Medicaid dual plans. What you pay for telehealth visits (most plans cover them like an office visit) depends on your plan’s copay and deductible, and on whether tests are ordered. See insurance accepted or call (281) 617-8671 to verify your coverage before your visit.

  • Face drooping, arm weakness or slurred speech
  • Severe bleeding or a serious injury
  • Sudden, severe pain
  • High fever with confusion or a stiff neck

Telehealth questions we hear most

Quick answers about virtual visits with our Sugar Land clinic.

Still have questions?

Our front desk can answer questions about visits and confirm your insurance before you come in.

Call (281) 617-8671

Can a new patient use telehealth?

New patients are seen in person first, so your provider can examine you and establish your record. After that, telehealth is available for appropriate follow-ups.

What do I need for a video visit?

A smartphone, tablet or computer with a camera and microphone, a stable internet connection and a private place to talk. If video is not possible, a phone visit can be arranged.

Can prescriptions be sent after a telehealth visit?

Yes, when appropriate. Your provider sends prescriptions to your pharmacy. Some medicines, including controlled substances, have rules that may require an in-person visit.

Is telehealth covered by insurance?

Most plans cover telehealth visits similarly to office visits. Call with your card ready and the front desk will confirm.

How do I book?

Call (281) 617-8671 during office hours and ask for a telehealth visit. The front desk will confirm it fits your concern and schedule a time.

Are you accepting new patients?

Yes. Voss Family Clinic is accepting new adult patients for primary care. Your first visit can be a walk-in, a scheduled appointment or a sick visit, and the same team continues your care afterward.

Do you offer care in Spanish?

Yes. Dr. Humera Naqvi speaks Spanish, and the appointment, contact, new-patient and insurance pages are available in Spanish. Call the office if you need help in Spanish choosing the right type of visit.
