Why testing matters even without symptoms

Most sexually transmitted infections cause no symptoms at first. Chlamydia and gonorrhea can quietly damage fertility; syphilis and HIV are far easier to treat when found early; hepatitis B and C can be managed or cured. Testing is the only way to know, and it is quick.

At Voss Family Clinic, screening is matched to your situation: routine yearly screening for sexually active adults under 25 or with new partners, testing after an exposure, or evaluation of symptoms such as discharge, burning, sores or pelvic pain. Partners can be treated as well.

  • Urine, swab and blood tests for the common infections
  • Same-day treatment for chlamydia, gonorrhea, trichomoniasis and syphilis once confirmed
  • HIV and hepatitis screening, with referral for specialist care when positive
  • Prevention counseling, vaccines (HPV, hepatitis) and PrEP referral

What happens after a positive result

A positive result is a reason to act, not to panic. Chlamydia, gonorrhea, syphilis and trichomoniasis are cured with antibiotics. Herpes is managed with antiviral medicine. HIV is treated with daily medication that keeps the virus undetectable and prevents transmission. Hepatitis C is now curable in most cases. Your provider explains your result, treats what can be treated here and refers you for specialist care when needed.

Protecting yourself and partners

  • Partners of anyone with chlamydia, gonorrhea or trichomoniasis should be treated too; ask us how
  • Avoid sex until treatment is complete and symptoms resolve
  • Repeat testing is recommended about 3 months after treatment for chlamydia or gonorrhea
  • Condoms, HPV and hepatitis B vaccination, and PrEP for HIV prevention when appropriate

Privacy

Your visit and results are part of your private medical record, discussed only with you. Texas law requires clinics to report certain infections to public health authorities so that partners can be notified anonymously; your provider will explain what that means.

Insurance and cost

Voss Family Clinic accepts most major insurance plans, including Blue Cross Blue Shield, Ambetter, Medicare and Medicare-Medicaid dual plans. What you pay for STD testing (many plans cover recommended screening as preventive care) depends on your plan’s copay and deductible, and on whether tests are ordered. See insurance accepted or call (281) 617-8671 to verify your coverage before your visit.
