Call 911 or go to the emergency room for anything that could threaten life or limb, such as chest pain, trouble breathing, stroke symptoms or severe bleeding. Use a walk-in clinic for sudden but non-life-threatening problems like a sore throat or UTI. See your primary care provider for checkups, ongoing conditions and follow-up.

When is it an emergency?
Go to the ER or call 911 for:
- Chest pain, pressure or tightness, especially with sweating, nausea or pain spreading to the arm, jaw or back
- Difficulty breathing or shortness of breath at rest
- Sudden numbness or weakness, confusion, trouble speaking or seeing
- Severe or worst-ever headache
- Severe abdominal pain, vomiting blood or black stools
- Heavy bleeding, serious burns or head injury with confusion
- Thoughts of harming yourself or others (you can also call or text 988)
Do not drive yourself if you have chest pain or stroke symptoms. Call 911.
What can a walk-in clinic treat?
A walk-in primary care clinic handles common acute problems that need attention soon but are not dangerous. At Voss Family Clinic in Sugar Land this includes colds, flu, sore throats, sinus and ear infections, urinary tract infections, minor rashes and skin infections, allergy flare-ups and mild stomach illness. If our team finds signs of something more serious, we will direct you to emergency care.
Walking in does not guarantee immediate service; wait times depend on how many patients are ahead of you. Clinic hours are Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and we are closed on weekends. Call ahead to check walk-in availability.
Why a primary care home still matters
Urgent visits fix today’s problem. A regular primary care provider knows your history, tracks blood pressure, blood sugar and cholesterol over time, and catches problems early. Read the benefits of having a primary care doctor.
Frequently asked questions
Is urgent care cheaper than the ER?
For non-emergency problems, a clinic visit usually costs much less than an emergency room visit. Costs depend on your insurance plan.
Should I go to the ER for stomach pain?
Severe, sudden or worsening pain, pain with fever and vomiting, or pain in the lower right abdomen needs emergency evaluation. Mild pain can often be seen at a walk-in clinic. See stomach pain: walk-in clinic or ER?
Do I need an appointment?
Walk-ins are welcome during walk-in hours, but requesting an appointment can shorten your wait.
